A taxi has been involved in a deadly crash. Fatal motor vehicle accidents are unfortunately a common occurrence on our California roadways. The accident has killed one person and left two people injured.
The accident reportedly occurred along the highway. The 24-year-old male driver of a car, who was traveling in the wrong direction on the highway, struck the taxi. The impact caused the taxi to veer across the highway, before a collision with a second vehicle that was headed in the southbound direction. The driver of the first car and the driver of the taxi suffered serious injuries and were both transported to the hospital. One of the occupants in the taxi was seriously injured, while the other was tragically killed.
The driver of the second vehicle was not injured. The driver of the car was arrested for DUI suspicion. Officers are awaiting his release from the hospital to take him to the county jail. Authorities were forced to close down part of the highway for several hours following the accident.
Any type of car accident can be overwhelming for victims who suffer from injuries. Understandably, it is even more overwhelming when victims lose their lives in fatal motor vehicle accidents at the hands of another driver. The surviving family members of the man who is deceased in this case may ultimately choose to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the car. Under California law, victims and families of deceased victims can pursue civil litigation against a negligent driver for compensation of financial damages such as burial costs and pain and suffering caused by the fatal event.
