A Los Angeles police motorcycle officer was critically injured in a recent accident after being struck by an SUV. The driver of the SUV was arrested for the suspicion of being under the influence of drugs at the time the accident occurred. A passenger in the SUV was questioned and then released.
The motorcycle accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Saticoy Street and Lankershim Boulevard. The officer was reportedly stopped at a traffic light when the SUV struck him from behind. The officer was then pinned to the car directly in front of him. He went under surgery on April 5 and was listed in critical condition.
Motorcycle riders have little chance to avoid serious injury when other drivers are not paying attention to their presence on the road. The problem made even worse when the driver of that other vehicle is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Here we are dealing with a police officer being injured due to someone else’s carelessness. No one should be forced to undergo the types of hardships he is likely to endure. He may be facing exorbitant medical costs and wage loss. Seeing that he was listed in critical condition and had to undergo surgery indicates that he has already undergone physical pain and suffering.
Personal injury attorneys cannot take back what has already occurred. However, we can at least help such individuals be compensated for the expenses and suffering they have endured to help these victims get on with their lives.
