A California law enforcement officer was injured on his motorcycle after just arriving at an accident scene to assist an injured pedestrian. The accident happened slightly before 2:00 p.m. on June 3.

A woman had been walking across the street when she was struck by a SUV. The police officer then arrived upon the scene and had the emergency lights and siren on his motorcycle activated. Nevertheless a black pickup truck pulled out in front of the officer and struck the motorcycle head-on.

Fortunately the police officer did not appear to be badly injured. The officer was described as being “banged up” and was treated by paramedics at the scene. It was reported that he suffered a foot injury.

The pedestrian was not so lucky. She was transported to the hospital after suffering major injuries as a result of the accident.

What’s striking about these incidents was the close proximity of both crashes that occurred only minutes apart. We have a pedestrian who was struck while apparently walking across an intersection and a police officer struck while in the line of duty. Even in an emergency situation where a police officer had both his lights and siren on, it appears the driver was not paying adequate attention to what was going on. The police officer could very well have been killed as a result of this motorcycle accident.

There’s no shortage of work for California attorneys representing individuals injured due to the carelessness of drivers. We need to hold drivers accountable for their actions and make certain that victims receive the care that they need.
