If you plan to travel for Thanksgiving, you may be joining millions of fellow Americans flying and driving to visit friends and family. Unfortunately, time spent in traffic or crowded airport lines can be stressful and counterproductive to enjoy your time away from work. To reduce your stress and avoid a car accident, follow these tips.
When picking up friends and family at the airport, be as specific as possible. Often times, people will say they are at Bradley International Terminal and by the time you get there, your guest is nowhere to be found. To reduce the number of times you have to cycle through the airport, specify when you will be outside the terminal, communicate when slowdowns occur and determine departure deck or arrivals. Depending on the time of day, the upper or lower deck of LAX may have different levels of traffic. It is easier to move between decks if you carry less equipment, which leads to the next tip.
If you need to fly, try to fly with carry on only. Limiting your clothes and gear can allow you greater flexibility in transportation to and from the airport and give your ride more accurate information as you do not have to wait at the baggage carousel. Furthermore, bringing less baggage can reduce your stress as you have less bags to monitor.
A Good Attitude Goes Far
Lastly, never forget to breath. Travel can be stressful, but it does not have to be this way. Pick out a couple albums to enjoy or bring the book you have been meaning to read. All too often, people get anxious and frustrated over inconsequential issues. When driving this can manifest as road rage and cause serious accidents with catastrophic injuries. Keep calm and travel on. In the end, everyone just wants to get to their destination safely and enjoy time with friends and family.
