A motorcyclist was struck and killed while out riding their motorbike along Los Angeles’ 5 Freeway in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 18. California Highway Patrol (CHP) first started receiving reports of a crash along the portion of the interstate that runs through Elysian Valley just before 2:05 a.m.

Witnesses interviewed at the crash scene reported having seen the motorcyclist riding his Triumph motorcycle down the freeway when he was involved in a hit-and-run. The impact of that crash caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from his bike.

It wasn’t long after he was struck by that motorist that witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle rider get up off the ground. As he did so, he was struck by another motorist driving a 2016 Toyota. She’d apparently been traveling behind the motorcyclist at the time the hit-and-run driver initially crashed into him.

After seeing the man was involved in a second crash, several motorists pulled over in hopes of helping him. His injures were apparently so severe, though, that not much could be done.

By the time emergency crews responded to the scene, the man had already passed away. Additional information about the motorcyclist including his age and city of residence have not yet been disclosed at this time.

Police investigators questioned witnesses, including the driver of the second car to strike the motorcyclist. Soon thereafter, they placed her under arrest for driving under the influence. She has also been charged with vehicular manslaughter as well. It’s unclear when the next hearing is scheduled for in the matter or if a judge decided to set bond in the case.
