According to a 2018 report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Department, nearly 5,000 motorcyclists lost their lives in traffic accidents nationwide. Even motorcycle riders who follow all the laws about wearing helmets, taking safety courses, and driving only while sober and without distractions can suffer serious injuries or lose their lives due to the careless actions of other motor vehicle drivers. The risks are well-known if you live in the Los Angeles area, as you can see from the following short list of newsworthy motorcycle crashes since the beginning of 2020.
Los Angeles motorcycle accidents in January
At the beginning of 2020, a serious collision occurred between a four-door sedan and a motorcyclist along the I-105 Freeway. The car reportedly struck the motorcycle and launched the rider into the roadway, which left him with a serious head injury. The driver of the car fled the scene.
Also in January, a 51-year-old member of the American Legion Riders Chapter 133, was riding her motorcycle near the Pacific Coast Highway when she was struck and tragically killed by a car. She left behind two children and three young grandchildren.
February motorcycle crashes in Los Angeles

The truck driver lost control and slammed into the median, resulting in his rig bursting into flames. He managed to escape the cab of his vehicle and survived. Unfortunately, as is all-too-often the case, the motorcyclist was dragged underneath the truck and did not survive.
Later that month in West Los Angeles, a Ford automobile collided with a motorcyclist on the 405 Freeway. The motorcycle rider was ejected on impact and suffered major injuries.
Los Angeles motorcycle accidents with injuries in March
A motorcyclist lost his life in early March in Chatsworth when he collided with a Mini Cooper while trying to make a turn. The police investigation pointed toward the wet roadway conditions at the time of the accident as a possible contributing factor. The car’s driver was uninjured.
Also during the early weeks of March, a 24-year-old motorcycle rider lost his life after striking the median of the Santa Ana Freeway and being thrown into the path of an oncoming car. The reason for the rider losing control and hitting the median remains under investigation.
