Charitable Involvement

Mr. Corwin has raised more than $3 million for charitable causes he supports since 2013.

Scott J. Corwin serves as the 2016 President of the Board of Governors of The Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities (LATLC) for 2015. Mr. Corwin also co-chairs the development committee, casino night committee, website committee, and he serves as an ex officio member of the golf tournament committee. LATLC is a non-profit organization founded in 2006, funded and maintained by attorneys practicing within the greater Los Angeles Area. Its members are committed to making a positive difference in the quality of life for people within the greater Los Angeles community by focusing on issues related to battered women, children, the homeless, persons with disabilities, and education. Mr. Corwin has served on the LATLC Board since 2013.

Mr. Corwin is actively involved with Vista Del Mar Child & Family Services, a more than 100 year old Los Angeles based nonprofit organization that is one of the preeminent social service agencies serving children and their families, with mental health problems, emotional problems, behavior problems, social problems, or developmental difficulties. Mr. Corwin was the Legacy Sponsor of the Women of Excellence Luncheon for 2015. Scott served as the Co-Chair for the Vista Del Mar Annual Texas Holdem Poker Tournament in 2011. The Corwin Family has demonstrated its commitment to the Los Angeles nonprofit community by establishing and funding the Tikun Olam Program of the Miracle Project and Vista Inspired Teens at Vista Del Mar. These programs benefit children with special needs and their families.

Scott has been a strong supporter of Hilarity for Charity in 2013. Hilarity for Charity raises money for the National Alzheimer’s Association, the world’s leading global voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, and the largest private nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research. Hilarity for Charity brings awareness of Alzheimer’s to the younger generation and to engage them in action. Mr. Corwin was a significant donor for the annual Hilarity for Charity event, hosted by actor and comedian, Seth Rogen, in April 2013.

Scott is a Director’s Circle member of the UCLA Wooden Athletic Fund for 2017. He has been a member of the Wooden Athletic Fund since 1996. Together, members of the Wooden Athletic Fund team provide invaluable support for all 700 UCLA student athletes, and every gift has a positive impact on their ability to succeed in the classroom, in competition and in the community. Mr. Corwin also serves as a Leadership Donor to the UCLA Pauley Pavilion Campaign of Champions from 2009 through 2016.

Mr. Corwin is involved in a number of charitable and nonprofit organizations in the Los Angeles Community. In 2005 he served as the Treasurer of University Synagogue, responsible for management of its annual $3 million budget. Mr. Corwin also served as Co-Chair of the University Synagogue Architectural and Construction Committees in 2004-05, where he was responsible for the design and oversight of a $10 million remodel project. Mr. Corwin was an Eagle Scout, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster and a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Corwin is a lifetime member of the UCLA Alumni Association.

Mr. Corwin’s other charitable involvement includes the Disability Rights Education Defense Fund, Heal the Bay, Concern Cancer Foundation, American Cancer Society, Clare Foundation, New Roads High School, Willows Community School, Marquez Charter Elementary School, The Saban Free Clinic, The UCLA Foundation, YMCA, American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Ocean Park Community Center and the Pacific Pride Foundation.

Pro Bono Work

Mr. Corwin devotes a significant amount of time to pro bono legal work, which includes assisting parents of children with special needs and developmental disabilities. He has also successfully fought for progressive legislation that protects disabled children in the State of California and provides them with the resources necessary to have their basic educational needs met.
